Getting your notary business started and having the right essential supplies is important because it will help you perform your official notarial duties, and it would assist you to have a successful start to your business.
- Notary Stamp – a notary stamp or seal is a requirement in all states it is a tool that you will use to authenticate your notary signature and make the notarial act official. I suggest always having 2 stamps on hand.
- Notary Embosser – it makes a raised impression that has your notary information. It is mostly used on official business documents.
- Notary Journal – a notary journal is not required in all states. But I highly advised that you keep one no matter what your state requirement is. It will serve as a record of all your notarial acts. It can help you if you are ever charged with making any mistakes or completing a notarial act incorrectly.
- Pens – a lot of blue and black ink pens some signing services or clients may require one color or another.
- Inkless Thumb Printer – is a clean, modern method of taking a fingerprint many states require a thumbprint on certain transactions involving real property.
- Printer – a dual tray laser printer that uses non-impact keys that do not strike the paper technology.
- Toner – the page yield of toner cartridges ranges anywhere from between 2,500-4,000 pages for standard cartridges, to 10,000-12,000 pages for high-capacity cartridges.
- Paper – you will be printing a large number of loan document files you are going to need at least 1 case of each legal and letter size printing paper.
- Scanner – some signing services will require you to scan back the signed loan documents if you are a mobile notary, you may also need a portable scanner.
- Jurats, Acknowledgements – print a few from your Secretary of State website and always have them on hand.
- Business Cards – paper and digital business cards are a must you will allow people to easily have your information when needed.
- Notary Receipt Book – keep your business records up to date with a receipt book that includes special entry spaces to describe the document you notarized and sections to itemize fees for your notary services.
