I have been writing down my goals to help me focus on what is important for my personal life and my notary business. Goal setting does not need to be an annual event break it down into smaller timeframes quarterly, monthly, weekly it all depends on how many goals you have in mind. I challenge myself each month to set mini weekly goals they are more of a focus for me. I usually start the week by creating a timeline, then I create my accountability plan by writing down each goal, and towards the middle of the week, I review and reassess what is working or not working which gives me time to tweak or change these goals is needed.
I use the SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound) format to help guide my goal setting an anchor on which I base all my focus and decision-making. It incorporates all the criteria to help me focus and increase the chances of accomplishing my goals.
SMART goals are:
Specific – Well defined, clear, and unambiguous (who, what, where, when, why)
Measurable – With specific criteria that measure your progress toward the accomplishment of the goal (how much, how do I know)
Achievable – Attainable and not impossible to achieve (resources and capabilities)
Realistic – Within reach, realistic, and relevant
Timely – With a clearly defined timeline, including a starting date and a target date
